DESCRIPTION

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. Sexual contact is the primary way that the virus spreads. After the initial infection, the virus lies dormant in your body and can reactivate several times a year

Symptoms –

• Pain or itching
• Small red bumps or tiny white blisters
• Ulcers
• Scabs

Risk factors –

• Common in women
• Have multiple sexual partners

Diagnosis and test –

• Viral culture
• Polymerase chain reaction test
• Blood test

Treatment –

• There is no cure for genital herpes. Treatment with several antiviral drugs may help.
