DESCRIPTION

Tinea versicolor is a common fungal infection of the skin. The fungus interferes with the normal pigmentation of the skin, resulting in small, discolored patches. These patches may be lighter or darker in color than the surrounding skin and most commonly affect the trunk and shoulders

Risk factors –

Anyone can get a fungal infection, even people who are otherwise healthy. People breath in or come in contact with fungal spores every day without getting sick. However, in people with weakened immune systems, these fungi are more likely to cause an infection

Diagnosis and test –

Tinea versicolor can be diagnosed by physical examination. If any doubt, he/she can take skin scrapings from the infected area and view it under a microscope
