TESTOSTERONE TEST

DESCRIPTION - It’s a simple blood test that’s usually done early in the morning, when your testosterone levels are highest.

METHODOLOGY – quantitative electro-chemiluminiscent immunoassay

TURN AROUND TIME – within 24 hours

SPECIMEN PREPARATION –

COLLECT – serum separator tube, green (lithium heparin). Collect three samples, 20 minutes apart

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transport 1 ml serum or plasma to transport tube. Spin and pool equal amount of serum or plasma. Transfer 1 ml of pooled specimen to transport tube

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated but frozen also acceptable

STABILITY – ambient: 5 days; refrigerated: 2 weeks; frozen: 6 months
