Methamphetamine test
METHAMPHETAMINE TEST
DESCRIPTION – the test is used to detect the presence of amphetamines in the urine. The drugs are used to stimulate the CNS and methamphetamine and phentermine are the most common types. The test can reveal usage of the drug even after a few days later. No special preparation is required for the test.
METHODOLOGY – quantitative liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry
TURN AROUND TIME – 1-8 days
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
COLLECT – gray (sodium fluoride), plain red or green (sodium heparin)
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 ml of serum to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated
STABILITY – ambient: 1 week; refrigerated: 2 weeks; frozen: 3 months
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – separator tubes. Plasma or whole blood collected in it
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
