FRUCTOSAMINE TEST
DESCRIPTION – fructosamine is a compound that is formed when glucose combines with protein. This test measures the total amount of fructosamine in the blood. Glucose molecules will permanently combine with proteins in the blood in a process called glycation
METHODOLOGY – quantitative spectrophotometry
TURN AROUND TIME – within 24 hours
SPECIMEN PREPARATION –
COLLECT – serum separator tube or pink (potassium EDTA)
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature before centrifuging
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated
STABILITY – ambient: 72 hours; refrigerated: 2 weeks; frozen: 2 months
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – hemolyzed specimens
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
