CMV IGM ANTIBODY TEST
DESCRIPTION – this type of test detects antibodies in the blood that are produced in response to a CMV infection. It can be used to diagnose a current or past infection by detecting and measuring two classes of CMV antibodies: IgM antibodies are produced by the body first in response to a CMV infection
METHODOLOGY – semi-quantitative chemiluminiscent immunoassay
TURN AROUND TIME – within 24 hours
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
COLLECT – serum separator tube
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated
STABILITY – ambient: 24 hours; refrigerated: 2 weeks; frozen: 1 month
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – contaminated, heat inactivated and hemolyzed specimens
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
