ADENO DEAMINASE TEST
DESCRIPTION – the adenosine deaminase test is not a diagnostic test, but it may be used along with other tests such as pleural fluid analysis, acid-fast bacillus smear and culture, and tuberculosis molecular testing to help determine whether a person has a mycobacterium tuberculosis infection
METHODOLOGY – quantitative spectrophotometry
TURN AROUND TIME – 1-4 days
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
PATIENT PREPARATION – collect specimens in leak proof container
COLLECT – pleural fluid
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – centrifuge specimen at room temperature. Transfer 1 ml fluid to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – frozen
STABILITY – ambient: 24 hours; refrigerated: 1 week; frozen: 1 month
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – whole blood or turbid specimens
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
