VITAMIN B1 TEST

DESCRIPTION – a vitamin B1 test is a blood test to identify if there is a deficiency in the vitamin which can lead to Beri Beri and other illness

METHODOLOGY – quantitative high performance liquid chromatography

TURN AROUND TIME – 2-4 days

SPECIMEN REQUIERED –

COLLECT – green (sodium heparin), lavender (EDTA), pink (potassium EDTA)

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transfer 3 ml whole blood to transport tube

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – critical frozen

STABILITY – refrigerated: 4 hours; frozen: 6 months

UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – any specimen other than whole blood, plasma separator tubes, glass tubes, clotted or non-frozen specimens
