TROPONIN T TEST

DESCRIPTION – a troponin test measures the levels of troponin T or troponin I proteins in the blood. These proteins are released when the heart muscle has been damaged, such as occurs with a heart attack. The more damage there is to the heart, the greater the amount of troponin T and I there will be in the blood

METHODOLOGY – quantitative electro-chemiluminiscent immunoassay

TURN AROUND TIME – 1-4 days

SPECIMEN REQUIERED –

COLLECT – plasma separator tube or green (sodium heparin)

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – separate the serum from the cells within 2 hours of collection

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMEPRATURE – critical frozen

STABILITY – refrigerated: 24 hours; frozen: 1 year

UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – specimens collected in potassium oxalate, sodium fluoride, or sodium citrate. Grossly hemolyzed specimens

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
