PROTEIN C ANTIGEN TEST
DESCRIPTION – protein C helps control blood clotting. A lack of this protein or a problem with the function of this protein may cause blood clots to form in veins. The test is also used to screen relatives of people who are known to have protein C deficiency. It may also be done to find the reason for repeated miscarriages
METHODOLOGY – enzyme immunoassay
TURN AROUND TIME – 1-2 days
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
COLLECT – Lt. blue (sodium citrate)
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transfer 2 ml platelet poor plasma to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – critical frozen
STABILITY – ambient: 4 hours; frozen: 3 months (-20 degrees C) and 6 months (-70 degrees C)
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – serum, EDTA plasma, clotted or hemolyzed specimens
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
