ESTRADIOL TEST
DESCRIPTION – an estradiol test measures the level of the hormone estradiol in the blood stream. Estradiol plays an important role in sexual development: it’s the most important form of the hormone estrogen. In sexually mature females, it’s produced mainly by the ovaries, and in smaller amounts by the adrenal glands
METHODOLOGY – quantitative high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry
TURN AROUND TIME – 1-4 days
SPECIMEN REQUIRED –
COLLECT – serum separator tube, lavender (EDTA), pink (potassium EDTA), green (sodium heparin)
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 ml serum to transport tube.
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated
STABILITY – ambient: 48 hours; refrigerated: 1 week; frozen: 1 month
