CERULOPLASMIN TEST

DSECRIPTION – A ceruloplasmin test is a blood test to check your ceruloplasmin levels. Ceruloplasmin is a protein your liver makes. It binds to copper and carries it throughout your body. If you have low ceruloplasmin, it can point to a genetic condition called Wilson diseases, a copper deficiency or other medical condition

METHODOLOGY – quantitative immunoturbidimetry

TURN AROUND TIME – within 24 hours

SPECIMEN REQUIERED –

COLLECT – serum separator tube or specimen collected in green (sodium heparin)

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 ml serum or plasma to transport tube

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – frozen

STABILITY – ambient: 8 days; refrigerated: 2 weeks; frozen: 1 year

UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – EDTA plasma, hemolyzed specimen

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
