DESCRIPTION – androstenedione testing is used to evaluate the function of the adrenal gland and the ovaries or the testicles as well as the production of hormones related to the development of male sex organs and physical characteristics

METHODOLOGY – quantitative high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry

TURN AROUND TIME – 1-4 days

SPECIMEN REQUIERED –

PATIENT PREPARATION – specimen should be collected between 6 to 10 am

COLLECT – serum separator tube

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transfer 1 ml serum or plasma to transport tube

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated

STABILITY – ambient: 24 hours; refrigerated: 1 week; frozen: 6 months
