DESCRIPTION – del 20q is the deletion of long arm of chromosome number 20. It is the common cytogenetic abnormality in myeloid malignancies including, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or acute myeloid leukemia (AML)

METHODOLOGY – fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)

PATEINT PREPARATION –

COLLECT – non diluted bone marrow aspirate

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – 3-4 ml bone marrow or peripheral blood in green top (sodium heparin) or lavender top (EDTA) tube

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – room temperature (8-25 degrees C)

STABILITY – ambient: 48 hours; refrigerated: 48 hours
